The Avengers continues to dominate at the box office, but that hasn’t stopped Disney and Marvel from looking ahead to the eventual DVD and Blu-ray release. According to Joblo The Avengers DVD release date has been pencilled in for September 25th, and they got their hands on some of the potential special features which includes alternate opening and endings, commentary from director Joss Whedon, and a whole bunch of deleted scenes.

Reynolds Highlander Filmonic

A new Highlander film has been in the works for a few years now, with one-time Bioshock director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo at the helm. Nothing has really happened with it, but it appears that the project just got a shot in the arm because Variety reports that talks have begun with Ryan Reynolds to take on the role of the immortal swordsman. Anthony Mackie Filmonic

A little over a month ago, we heard that Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake were co-starring in a gambling movie called Runner Runner directed by The Lincoln Lawyer helmer Brad Furman. It’s about a Princeton student (Timberlake) who is cheated out of his tuition by the billionaire owner of an online poker site (Affleck), and when the student flies to Costa Rica to get his money back, he gets sucked further into that world and becomes the billionaire’s protege. Variety reports that Anthony Mackie has also signed on, adding to the excellent cast and making me even more interested in how this film turns out. click to continue…

It’s a good guess that The Black Widow probably wouldn’t have been featured in The Avengers this summer if it wasn’t for a little movie called Alien back in 1979. Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott redefined the concept of an action hero and paved the way for a ton of female protagonists in genres previously thought to be a boys club. In an interview with The Daily Beast (via The Playlist), Scott spoke a bit about his upcoming new entry into the Blade Runner universe and offered some definitive words about the gender of the new film’s lead character.

Juno Temple Filmonic

Aside from a small role in The Three Musketeers, I’m not familiar with the on-screen work of actress Juno Temple. That’s about to change, though, since she’s appearing in one of the year’s most highly anticipated films, The Dark Knight Rises. Looks like we’ll all have the chance to get a bit more familiar with her work soon after that as well, since The Hollywood Reporter says the actress has signed on to play one of the three pixies who raise Princess Aurora in Robert Stromberg’s alternate take on the Sleeping Beauty story, Maleficent. click to continue…

cloud atlas concept art 1 Cloud Atlas, the movie adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel directed by The Wachowskis (The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), has finally been given a release date in the US, having been eyed for a November debut in a few other countries.

The news comes from Thompson on Hollywood who say the movie will bow on an Oscar-friendly date of December 6th, and Warner Bros. has allowed a running time of 2 hours and 44 minutes despite agreeing to 2 hours and 30 minutes when they came aboard as distributor.
